Background
Daniel is very interested in ideas relating to place and time, underpinned by a passion for contemporary and modern classical music.
His drawing-led practice spans a wide range of media. It is characterised by free mark-making and underpinned by motifs from maps, plans and photographs; informed as much by musical influences as by the visual arts. It is closest, perhaps, to a visual proposition for a new musical improvisation. Daniel’s work is often informed by new creative avenues opened up by dialogue and collaboration with others
Daniel’s first degree was in photography (Polytechnic of Central London, 1985). He subsequently had a career in public service, including senior roles in arts, libraries and cultural services, during which time he gained an MPA (Masters in Public Administration) from Warwick University.
Returning to visual art in 2014, Daniel undertook a range of short courses in painting at Central St Martins School of Art and more recently two year-long programmes in contemporary practice at City Lit. Covent Garden. Following a move from London to Oxfordshire in 2019, Daniel has a studio at Wilcote Arts.
Daniel welcomes discussions about exhibitions, residencies, collaborations, commissions, and other opportunities.
